Demo Soil Workshop with Ekarasa Doblanovic

Ekarasa Doblanovic’s practice encompasses painting and installation with collaborative and participatory projects, working across New Zealand and Australia as well as internationally. Her works create an empathetic interaction between people, art and nature, using organic earth materials to heighten the sensation and affect of colour and its material nature.

In her practice, she uses pure pigments and fabricates her own colours, and will be offering a special workshop for OSW that will present Waitakere's soil diversity, demonstrating how to make pigments from scratch.

All ages welcome.
Wheelchair Accessible.

Public Raku Firing - with Titirangi Potters Club

Titirangi Potters Club will be doing a public raku firing. - this is where you fire bisque bowls using metallic glazes in a fire kiln (raku). Members of the public can paint a bowl with glaze and watch it being fired - and then take it home. The club charge a nominal fee - $2 to $10 for a pot/ bowl/ vase.
It is quite dramatic to see your own pot come out smoking - so don't miss this opportunity!

Check out their 'open studio group' listing for more info about the Titirangi Potters Club here

Hindsight - Cara Marx

A regretfully nostalgic daydream of my alternative universe; where I am the hero of my memories. We do the best we can in the heat of the moment. But in hindsight, we find ourselves delving into endless idealistic scenarios of how we could have been better - smarter, quicker, more confident, more calm, more scary, sexier, wiser....
This series indulges my daydreams of what could have been.

New Leaf - Jacinda Torrance

What happens when you repeat the same creative task each day x 100? In May 2017 I committed to the 100 Days Project. New Leaf is an off-screen experiment in one medium, with one subject matter for one hundred days and beyond.

Live Music at Lopdell Precinct

In association with Open Studios Waitakere and Lopdell Precinct invite you to an afternoon of music in the Theatre functions room. This FREE music event is hosted by John Goudge.

The line up includes:

12:30pm - SugarMouse

SugarMouse is an acoustic duo, consisting of Renie Downes (vocals and percussion) and Keith Shore (guitar and backing vocals). Performing an eclectic mix of jazz, pop and classics, this Titirangi-based duo takes originals and infuses them with their own SugarMouse flavour.

1:30pm - Jan Elliott

Jan’s songs include compelling lyrics, with a mix of light hearted and tragic story telling. Jan is a seasoned performer and winner of The CTV (Canterbury Television) Talent Quest. Her polished guitar work and classy vocals have been well received at festivals and venues throughout New Zealand and abroad.

“Jan performed an achingly beautiful set accompanying herself with gorgeous finger style guitar melodies”… Canterbury Wine and Food Festival.

2:30pm - Otis Mace

Best known as Otis Mace – Guitar Ace, for his solo ventures, Otis has a long national and international music career spanning four decades, with numerous recording & touring credits to his name.

Otis’s off-beat high energy shows have a touch of parody, and a touch of protest, as this singer-poet takes the stage with his anarchic tenderness.

3:30pm - Zimbini

Zimbini is a West Auckland couple who bring their own smooth style to a range of blues, jazz and pop songs. With guitar and voice, they perform at concert nights and private functions around Auckland. Last month they presented a successful fund raising show for KidsCan, the child poverty charity.
