Keum sun lee

MAP No. 22

Keum Sun LEE is a self-taught potter. Working with both 10th-century and 15th-century Korean pottery techniques, she has adapted these traditions and added colours to give a contemporary aspect to her creations. Small to large ceramic works for sale. The work is a truly collaborative effort with Sang Sool often creating the form, either by hand or on a wheel before Keum Sun decorates it. She combines traditional Korean techniques including Sanggam (inlay) and Bakji, which dates back 1000 years, with contemporary methods.

“The important thing is the glaze” says Keum Sun. “There are several ways to glaze, we tried many and then made our own using powdered ashes combined with other minerals.”
