Maria’s ceramic practice is rooted in a love of slow making, simplicity, and the quiet beauty of imperfection. Working from her home studio, she creates small-batch, hand-built pottery, with each piece shaped individually and carrying its own unique character.

Rather than striving for uniformity, she embraces the organic nature of clay and allows the material to guide the process. Much of her work begins with the simple, intuitive act of pinching clay into shape. This slow process creates forms that feel natural and tactile, while preserving the subtle variations that make handmade pottery so distinctive.

Decoration is an equally important part of her practice. All pieces are finished with intricate, time-consuming details applied entirely by hand. Simple repeated spots, lines and contemporary patterns are layered across organic forms, creating a gentle balance between repetition and irregularity. The process is deliberately unhurried, with each mark made by hand and each piece evolving through many hours of patient work.

She has a particular love of bright, contrasting colour, using bold combinations to bring energy and a contemporary edge to her earthy, tactile forms. Colour, pattern and texture work together to create pieces that are both functional and quietly sculptural.

The evidence of the maker’s hand remains central to her work. Fingerprints, gentle irregularities, variations in form and hand-drawn decoration are not imperfections to be hidden, but traces of time, process and touch. Made in small quantities and often as one-of-a-kind pieces, her pottery celebrates the individuality of handmade objects and the beauty that comes from making slowly, thoughtfully and by hand.
